Popular British conservative commentator, Nigel Farage, recently had his personal and business bank accounts canceled by Coutts Bank because of his political views.

However, after Farage went public with the cancellations, two Bank CEOs have since resigned due to their roles in the debacle because of public and political outrage.

The latest to resign was Coutts CEO Peter Flavel.

The CEO of Coutts, the exclusive bank that terminated Nigel Farage’s accounts for political reasons has said he bears “ultimate responsibility” and is consequently resigning, the second top banking figure to go over the Farage scandal in as many days.

The consequences for the politicisation of banking, manifesting itself as the debanking of Brexit leader Nigel Farage for his views, friendships, and Twitter usage, continue, with a second bank CEO resigning in two days.

Dame Alison Rose of NatWest Group which owns Coutts Bank had previously resigned over her role, which included leaking Farage’s personal information and a brief which bank officials had written about Farage when deciding to cancel his accounts.

Since his debanking last month, Farage added that ten banks have turned him down when he applied to open accounts, and described the rejections as a political vendetta.
