[by Dean Smith] On Tuesday (November 18, 2014), the world was stunned to hear about the attack on a Jerusalem synagogue by two Palestinian cousins that left five people dead and seven injured. Three of the dead were Americans and one was from Britain. The fifth was a policeman responding to the attack.
The two men — Ghassan and Oday Abu Jamal — involved in the brutal assault, lived in East Jerusalem. They entered the synagogue during morning prayers and though people tried to defend themselves, they had little chance against the terrorists armed with meat cleavers and a gun.
As the two men entered the synagogue they shouted: Allahu Akabar” which translated from Arabic means ‘god is great.’ The two were members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a militant organization in Palestine. The two Palestinians were killed by police in a shoot out.
After hearing about the brutal attack, Palestinians flooded the streets dancing and waving flags in celebration.
Ten days earlier (November 10, 2014), Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei took to twitter calling for the total destruction of Israel. In a series of Twits entitled: “9 key questions about the elimination of Israel.”
Some of his tweets included:
“The barbaric, wolflike & infanticidal regime of #Israel which spares no crime has no cure but to be annihilated”
“Why should & how can #Israel be eliminated? Ayatollah Khamenei’s answer to 9 key questions. #HandsOffAlAqsa,”
The hashtag: #handsoffalaqsa refers to a recent spat of violent attacks by Muslims against Jews on the Temple Mount. His tweets continued:
“Why should the Zionist regime be eliminated?”
“During its 66 years of life so far, the fake Zionist regime has tried to realize its goals by means of infanticide, homicide, violence and iron fist while boasts about it blatantly.”
“What is the most urgent action to take to militarily confront Israel?”
“The West Bank should be armed like Gaza and those who are interested in Palestine’s destiny should take action to arm the people of the West Bank … .”
The Ayatollah even blamed Israel for poisoning former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Many believe the Ayatollah along with other Muslim extremists are trying to provoke attacks not only in Israel but around the world. The attack on the synagogue on Tuesday was the most brutal attack against Israel since 2008 when eight Jewish students were murdered.
Though Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the attack, his voice of moderation is being drowned out by others extremist groups such as Hamas who praised the attack. Hamas controls the Gaza strip, a part of Palestine located inside Israel along the coast.
While some demand that Israel make peace with Palestine, others wonder how Israel can make peace with those whose ultimate goal is Israel’s annihilation.
