Is It True That the Book of Revelation Indicts Big Pharma?

By Dr. Michael L. Brown Speaking of the fall of “Babylon the Great” in the 18th chapter of the Book of Revelation, verse 23 states that “all nations were deceived by your sorcery,” but the Greek word for “sorcery” here is pharmakia. Was it possible, a caller asked me on Friday, that this was speaking of the large pharmaceutical companies? My answer was absolutely, categorically not. Allow me to explain. What Does Pharmakia Mean: Drugs or Sorcery? The caller was sharp enough to realize that we cannot determine the meaning of an ancient word from the modern word derived from it. For example, we get the English word “dynamite” from the Greek word dunamis, which means “power,” and in the New Testament in particular, “miraculous power.” It was with that dunamis that Jesus healed the sick — not blew them up. So, the fact that English “dynamite” is derived from dunamis tells us nothing about the meaning of that ancient Greek word. In the same way, the fact that our English words for “pharmacy” and …

Why was ‘sorcery,’ Biblegateway’s top searched term in 2021?

Biblegateway.com, a website used by tens of millions of people each year to search and study the Bible, just released its most popular searches over the past 12 months. It was a shocking to discover that the most searched Biblical words were terms related to sorcery, that registered a 193% increase over 2020. The remaining top three searches included: ‘Slow to anger’ that had a 169% increase, and ‘In my Father’s house are many rooms’ that saw a 140% increase over last year. Sorcery knocked out last year’s number one search, plagues and pestilence, which obviously spiked because of COVID. Searches for those terms actually saw a 71% decrease in 2021. But it is strange why sorcery would see such a dramatic increase this year. Biblegateway suggests that it may be due to sorcery being derived from the Greek word, pharmakeia, from which we get the English word pharmacy or drugs. In his article on Biblegateway, Johnathan Peters explains: The increase in sorceries is related to heightened interest in the Greek word pharmakeia which, according …

According a statement by Gross, seven years ago he helped Brittni leave the porn industry where she performed under the name of Jenna Presley. Four years later, Brittni met and married Rich who was pastoring a church at the time. As he was contemplating leaving XXXchurch, Gross felt God impress on him that Brittni and Rich were to replace him. Gross added that this choice does not surprise him because Brittni is picture of God’s redemptive work. In a post on Facebook, Brittni added that Craig and his wife Jeannette played a critical role in helping her break free from the porn industry: “This is crazy! When I was in the adult film industry XXXchurch used to tell me that Jesus loves me. They gave me a …
