According to a report by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), some are wondering if the flu is now catching COVID because there has been a sharp decline in the number of flu cases in the US compared to last year.

Did the FLU goes MIA in the US?
Back in early January, before COVID-19 became the flavor of the day, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, told CNN that the 2019-20 flu season was going to be a bad one. Fauci said: “The initial indicators indicate this is not going to be a good season — this is going to be a bad season.” He added that it was on course to be as severe as the 2017-2018 flu season when over 61,000 people died from the flu. No conspiracy here: Death count for COVID-19 suddenly drops in Pennsylvania
The US state of Pennsylvania just recently removed hundreds of deaths from its COVID-19 count. Apparently some in the health department’s counting department had included “probable” deaths to the official COVID-19 death count. This resulted in a doubling of the number of deaths attributed to the Coronavirus. Of course, they were quick to point out that we shouldn’t treat this as some sort of conspiracy to jack up the death counts for COVID-19. Australia warns of a nasty flu season
If reports coming out of Australia are correct, this year’s flu season in the Northern Hemisphere could be particularly nasty. Of course, Australia is just finishing off its winter when the flu bug becomes the most prominent, and we in the north are just entering our winter season. A report on an Australian news site says this year was particularly bad with a record-setting 172,247 reported cases of the flu. Australia’s immunization Coalition (IC) states this is 156% higher than the number reported last year at the same time. IC suspects that this year’s estimate is undoubtedly low because the health system is under such stress they are behind in their reporting. It is uncertain what the final count will be. Doctors are also describing the flu as a “super strain” meaning it is more potent than what they had seen in the past. The elderly and very young are particularly vulnerable.
