Congo volcano erupts

Another volcano erupted this year, this time in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mount Nyiragongo erupted around 7 pm on May 23, 2021 turning the sky a bright red. People in the nearby city of Goma, population 670,000, reported seeing giant flames shooting into the night sky and the smell of sulphur. Thousands are fleeing the city. The last time the 3,000-meter volcano erupted was in 2002 and resulted in the deaths of 100. An eruption in 1977 killed over 600 people. The volcano is located in the Virunga National Park which borders Rwanda. The park is home to mountain gorillas, an endangered species made famous by Dian Fossey. There have been several volcanic eruptions so far this year including two in Iceland, three in Guatemala and as well eruptions in Alaska, Indonesia, Italy, and the Caribbean island of St. Vincent. The prophet Joel warned that one of the sign posts of the end times would be in an intense time of volcanic activity as he referred to columns (in the plural) of smoke leading …

Caribbean island volcanoes awaken

The prophet Joel wrote of events leading up to the coming Day of the Lord and in one of his visions marking the endtimes he saw column(s), plural, of smoke/ash pouring into the sky that darkened the sun and caused the moon to turn red (Joel 2:30-31). Along that theme, a recent article in the Daily Mail reports that volcanoes in the Caribbean are starting to come to life: Residents of St Vincent and the Grenadines have been told to evacuate their homes as a volcano begins to spew ash from a newly formed dome after lying dormant for decades. Authorities have issued an alert for the area, affecting more than 100,000 people, as scientists assess the latest eruption.  On Tuesday officials warned of strong gas emissions, formation of a new volcanic dome and changes to its crater lake at the La Soufriere volcano.   Today the alert level was raised to an orange, with suggestions the volcano could erupt within a day and advising people from Fancy in the north of the island to Georgetown …

Is Joel chapter 2 being fulfilled before our eyes?

Joel was a prophet that God raised up to call Judah to repentance. Most believe his prophecies were delivered sometime between 835 BC and 800 BC. But in the second chapter, the prophet veers from his message and prophesies about things that will occur leading up to the Day of the Lord or the second coming of Christ. It is like reading a newspaper clipping from 2020 AD. Plagues of Locusts First he describes plagues of locusts that he compares to an army leaping over walls (Joel 2:1-11). This plague will ravage the land and overwhelm cities. There will be so many that they will darken the skies and leave behind utter devastation: Before them fire devours,     behind them a flame blazes. Before them the land is like the garden of Eden,     behind them, a desert waste—     nothing escapes them. Joel 2:3 NIV Reports indicate|a massive wave of locusts is building in Africa in April 2020, that could devastate the food supplies of several countries in Africa and the Middle East. The first wave hit …

Another end times event — volcanoes?

Español: Otro evento final de los tiempos – volcanes? I had never heard of Perry Stone, an American Bible teacher and TV evangelist, but I recently came across his interpretation of verses in Joel speaking of the end-times, that caught my attention. Joel writes: “I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire and columns of smoke. 31 “The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. (Joel 2:30-31 NASV) Up to this point, I have interpreted these verses referring to blood, fire, columns of smoke, dark sun and blood moon as describing the aftermath of a great earthquake the Apostle John refers to in Revelation 6:12-17. However, Stone has a different twist on this passage and I think he might be right. He believes Joel is describing giant volcanic eruptions exploding on the earth. Columns of smoke perfectly describe the aftermath of volcanoes. The resulting ash pouring into the atmosphere will cause a darkening of the sun and …
