Why is Ezekiel 38 trending on Twitter?

Twitter exploded after photos emerged of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with Iran’s Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. It was Putin’s first international visit since his invasion of Ukraine, and it was unmistakable that Putin was showing the world that he still has allies. Also in attendance was Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is trying to broker a deal that would end Russia’s blockade of Ukraine’s ports, allowing needed grain shipments to leave. But it left Turkey looking like a Putin ally as well. However, the meeting also caught the attention of those studying Biblical end times events because it could be a precursor to fulfilling an infamous end times war, also called Armageddon, where several nations attacking Israel. This included Gog and Magog, Persia, Cush and Gomer, described in Ezekiel 38. Persia, of course, fits modern Iran, but there have been a few questions on who Gog and Magog described since it seems to be the major player in this war. Gog is the leader of this …

Israel and Gaza: Is this Armageddon?

Do you remember life two years ago? It’s blurry in my memory. If someone said COVID or words like Astra Zeneca, we might have guessed they were speaking another language. Then, a pandemic came on us, and life has not been the same. We are told that change will come on us: “The day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. When they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” (1 Thessalonians 5: 2 and 3) That just happened. Everything seemed normal; I remember making decisions and plans for the next few years. I went to a work site one day, and I remember sheets of plastic hung from the ceilings to keep customers, people off the street, away from the workers at the counters. I had a bad feeling about that, and then someone noticed me. The workers looked at me like I was a strange alien creature, and they explained that I …

Impeachment, Brexit and Armageddon

It’s impossible to miss the two endless arguments about impeaching the President of the United States and removing Britain from the European Union, Brexit. The impeachment argument has continued for months and Brexit for years. Armageddon is a popular cultural concept of a final battle that will bring an end to human history. Are they all related somehow? In the Bible, there is a persistent reference to a final battle that is prophesied to come. We are told that the nations of the world will attack Israel, to completely destroy it and God will defend Israel. The combined armies will assemble in the valley or plain of Megiddo, a wide space in northern Israel, Hor Megiddo in Hebrew. Megiddo is a town and our word ‘Armageddon’ is from the Hebrew name of the flat space nearby. “Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It …

For Bad Religion, Just Add Armageddon

In November of 2017, the police arrested some kidnappers in an industrial suburb, close to where I live. Nisku, the suburb, is a huge oilfield service area. If any place is good for a kidnapping, Nisku is not it. The place is filled with large trucks and welding shops. When the details were told, the story got stranger; the kidnappers were mostly naked, in cold weather, and they fiercely resisted the police, who tasered and pepper sprayed them. One of the kidnap victims was a tiny baby. The three kidnap victims escaped unharmed, and the kidnappers have been tried and just recently convicted. The whole story is bizarre, and it was all about religion. The kidnappers are Jehovah’s Witnesses who worked themselves into a frenzy for several days, and there might have been some hallucinogenic tea in the house. They all decided that November 6, 2017 was the day of Armageddon, and then they decided to save their neighbors from the destruction at the end of the world. They rushed to the rescue-kidnapping so quickly …

What’s happening in Turkey?

My family church, when I was a boy, was famous for talks about Bible prophecy. The pastor had giant charts the size of curtains, to explain what the Bible said about the future of the world. I remember that he could fill the church with his Sunday evening talks, and I vaguely remember pictures of animals with several heads, on those enormous sheets. This was before computers and projectors, and those wall-sized pictures were famous. Years later, as an adult, I met strangers in far away places who wanted to talk about those huge pictures. Our pastor was a good man, and his ideas were conservative. He just wanted us to know what the Bible said about the future of the world, and he made a sincere effort to teach us. I may have been the only kid in my school who knew about Gog and Magog in the land of the north. One thing I remember clearly from those talks was the advice to look north. From the Bible’s perspective, that means north from …
