A billboard campaign in California recently hit the news after someone posted a Facebook video of man defacing one of the billboards, the Christian Post reports.
The group called World’s Last Chance (WLC) had but up the billboard as part of its campaign denying the deity of Christ.
The billboard read:
The Bible Says Jesus is Not God
Jesus did not pre-exist in Heaven
The man altered the message by painting over the word “Not” leaving it saying, “The Bible Says Jesus is God”. He also blacked out the second line below.
According to reports the billboards have shown up in several states including California and Georgia.
Based on its website, WLC does more than deny the deity of Christ. Popular Christian apologist Ray Comfort added “they reject his name in English, promote a flat earth view, and add lawkeeping as a requirement for righteousness.”
Christ’s Deity is increasingly becoming a major issue. Last year, an Arizona pastor was murdered, because he believed Jesus is God.
It is also one of the biggest problems that Muslims have with Christianity. Islam not only denies Christ’s deity, but also claims that Jesus was never crucified.
But throughout the Gospels, Jesus consistently revealed His divine nature.
It shows up when four men cut a whole in the roof of a home so they could lower down a paralyzed man.
Jesus not only healed the man (Mark 2), but added, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Jesus didn’t ask God to forgive the man’s sin, He forgave them Himself.
This difference was not missed by the scribes, who reacted by saying “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins except God alone?”
Or how about the time Jesus got into a heated argument with the Pharisees in the temple and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you before Abraham was, I am.”
The Pharisees understood that Jesus was claiming to be Divine by stating He existed before Abraham. But the Lord didn’t stop there, Jesus added that He was the “I am”. This was the name Jehovah used when He spoke to Moses from the burning bush (Exodus 3:14).
After hearing this, the Jews “picked up stones to throw at Him.”
