There was another move of the Holy Spirit this past summer that is just now being reported.
According to AG News, the Holy Spirit moved on about 500 youth or Gen Z (1997 to 2012) attending a youth camp in Pennsylvania between July 17 to July 21, 2023.
The camp, which was being operated by New Jersey Ministry Network (NJMN), at the Spruce Lake Retreat Center in the state’s Pocono Mountains had initially started off on the wrong foot.
According to NJMN’s youth director, Andy Lynn, during the first day of the camp, several conflicts surfaced that led to actual fights between the kids.
Because of this brewing trouble, not only were camp officials ready to expel some students, but other teens were also considering leaving the camp.
The sudden turn of events led staff to an intense time of travailing and prayer over what was happening at camp and according to Lynn, the Holy Spirit answered their prayers in dramatic fashion.
As staff were preparing for the evening service on the camp’s second day, July 19, they noticed that many teens had already gathered at the meeting room prior to the service and were praying.
Mid-service, NJMN’s Network Superintendent, Don James, stood up and told the teens that he felt impressed that the Holy Spirit was going to move at this camp and this was a camp that would be remembered for the ages.
When it came time for the guest speaker to address the students, the Holy Spirit took the meeting in an entirely different direction. Rather than giving his prepared sermon, the speaker said that he felt God wanted to move on these students and opened the altar up for anyone who wanted prayer.
Dozens of teens swarmed the front of the church. But it was more than just the student’s response that caught everyone’s attention because it quickly became clear that the Holy Spirit was moving in power.
“I felt a strange sensation,” Lynn said, “like a holy wind sweeping through the room. About 100 students began speaking in tongues.”
Suddenly teens spontaneously began singing “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God almighty,” while others were on their knees repenting of their sins.
But it wasn’t just the students. Staff members and adults were also being impacted. One member who had been seeking the Baptism of the Holy Spirit for 15 years was filled and speaking in tongues.
But the significant number of teens speaking in tongues reminds me of the encounter that the Apostle Paul had with 12 believers at Ephesus.
As soon as Paul met the group, he knew immediately something was off stating, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” (Acts 19:1 NASV).
I am not sure what gave it away, but the Apostle knew something was missing in their lives.
When the group stated that they had been baptized into John’s baptism and did not know the Holy Spirit baptism, the Apostle Paul laid hands on them, and “the Holy Spirit came on them and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.”
It is possible for Christians to believe in Christ, and be saved, but not to have been baptized in power.
When the Holy Spirit moves there will be outward manifestations of this such as happened when the Holy Spirit fell upon the Gentiles meeting at Cornelius’ house, where there were outward demonstrations of this power again through tongues (Acts 10:44-46).
When the Holy Spirit moves there will be demonstrations of this power through the gifts.
