According to an article on World of Reel, the sequel to the mega-hit movie The Passion of Christ will start filming in January 2024, Christian Headlines reports.

Directed by Mel Gibson, The Passion of Christ, which was released in 2004, grossed over $612 million worldwide, and focused on the life of Christ to His crucifixion. With a production budget of only $30 million, it also received three Oscar nominations including one for Cinematography

According to Hollywood reporter, Jordan Ruimy, the sequel also to be directed by Gibson, will focus on the period between Christ’s death and resurrection.

The movie has been in the planning stages for over a year and the script is being written by Randall Wallace, who also wrote Braveheart. Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in the first movie, is expected to reprise the same role in the sequel after playing the leading role in the surprise hit of the summer, Sound of Freedom.
