UFOs, or unidentified flying objects, have been the subject of fascination and speculation for decades. People have reported sightings of strange lights and objects in the sky that they cannot identify or explain.

One example of this is an incident that took place late on April 30, 2023, when a family in Las Vegas, Nevada phoned 911 stating that there were massive aliens in their backyard.

The LA Times reports that 40 minutes prior to this, footage caught on a Las Vegas Police officer’s video cam revealed a bright object falling from the sky over the city.

According to the 911 call, the family had similarly seen the falling object but then added there were now two large aliens (8′ to 10′ tall) with big shiny eyes and big mouths who were ‘100% of not human’ standing in their backyard.

They added in the 911 call that they were genuinely terrified.

What was equally curious was the response of the police sent to the family’s home to investigate.

According to the LA Times, who had received copies of the report, one of the officers responding to the call was actually quite nervous:

“I’m so nervous right now,” one of the responding officers said while en route to the house. “I have butterflies bro.” He continues to say that people “saw a shooting star, and now these people say there’s aliens in their backyard.”

This officer believed that there was a distinctly possibility they were about to have an alien encounter.

However, when the police officers arrived, the aliens, if they were ever there, were now gone. They interviewed the family and neighbours, investigated the backyard and found no evidence of aliens.

As several people noted in the comments, none of the family members had videoed the incident, so we are left wondering if it was a real or imagined.

Though some have suggested that sightings such as these are evidence of extraterrestrial life or advanced technology, how do these sightings fit into a biblical perspective?

The Bible does not directly mention the existence of UFOs or extraterrestrial beings. However, it does provide insight into the nature of the universe and God’s relationship to it.

The Bible teaches that God is the creator of the universe, and that he is actively involved in its workings.

In Genesis 1:1, we read that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” The Hebrew word for “heavens” used here is shamayim, which refers to the entire universe beyond the earth. This indicates that God is the creator not only of our planet, but of the entire cosmos.

In Psalm 19:1, we read that “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” This passage suggests that God has revealed something of himself through the beauty and complexity of the universe.

And in Romans 1:20, we read that “since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.”

So, what does all this have to do with UFOs?

As Christians, we believe that God is sovereign over the entire universe. If there are indeed other intelligent beings in the universe, which I don’t believe there is, God is in control of their existence and their relationship to us.

Furthermore, if extraterrestrial life does exist, it does not necessarily contradict the biblical account of creation, which is focused on this planet and on humanity.

When it comes to UFO sightings, it is important to remember that not all unexplained phenomena are necessarily supernatural or miraculous.

Sometimes people mistake natural phenomena like planets, weather phenomena, or aircraft for something inexplicable. We should always approach these types of sightings with a healthy dose of skepticism.

In conclusion, while the Bible does not provide direct answers to the question of UFOs, it does offer a perspective on the universe that suggests a sense of order and purpose.

God is the creator of all.
