SEX! … Do I have your attention?

I remember the sexual revolution. I’m old enough that I lived through times when our culture was changing, and people were becoming liberated. I was raised in a religious family, and I talked to my friends, but I didn’t get to participate. My family and church had one word for me: NO! I am grateful now, that I avoided so many dangerous things, but that did not make me a good or moral person. I was just severely restricted. When I started my adult life, we had a pastor who explained morals to us. He didn’t just say the usual “NO!”, he explained the dangers to us. I am still grateful. I am writing about liberation, also known as playing around, promiscuity, or partying and any other words that I missed. My language is not always up-to-date. Basically, it’s describing a pornographic lifestyle. This is an uncomfortable topic, but we need to face it. Young adults in many parts of the world are going through a social revolution, and the results are not good. Depression …

Is the Spirit of Jezebel rearing its painted face again?

Evan Vickers, a Republican senator from Utah, was staying at a hotel in Washington, DC, when there was a knock on his door. When he opened it, he found a young woman standing in front of him. In an interview with KSTU-TV, Vickers told what happened next: “I opened the door and there was a young lady standing there and she said ‘Hi,’ and I said, ‘Hi,’ who are you?” And she said, ‘I’m your date.’ I said, ‘No, you’re not.’ She said, ‘Yes, I’m your date.’” The woman would not leave and insisted several times she was his date. When Vickers refused to go along with it, the young woman eventually walked to the elevator still claiming she was his date. Vickers returned to his room, locked the door, and called for an associate to accompany him.  It is uncertain what was going on but there is speculation that the woman was trying to entrap the senator. He warned other politicians to be careful. Several years ago a prominent pastor of a very large …

The changing face of pornography

The Economy of Pornography

When I was six, some curious boys explored an empty house that was being demolished, and I went with them. Inside, one of the older boys called us to see a mail order catalogue that he found. I remember we sat on the floor and a big boy showed us pictures of women in their underwear. I didn’t understand, but I knew we were bad boys and those were dirty pictures. I still haven’t told my parents. The world has changed since then. Now three things are true; 1) products are mass produced and mass consumed 2) sex sells everything and 3) any business that succeeds evolves and expands rapidly. 1) Success is Consumption: Mass production and consumption dominate our economy, and all we need is money. For example, people everywhere eat fast food, made with mass produced sugar, salt, starch, fat, and additives. It’s bad for us, and it’s everywhere. We are struggling to manage this new set of rules. Pornography is one of the most overproduced commodities in the world, and people consume …

Casual sex connected to depression and suicidal thoughts

Researchers at Ohio State University discovered a link between casual sex and poor mental health. This included increased depression and thoughts of suicide.  They interviewed 10,000 students in grades 7 to 12 and then re-interviewed them between the ages of 18 to 26. The research group specifically surveyed them on depression and suicidal thoughts. Of these students, 29% said they participated in casual sex (women 24%, men 33%).
