Chicago rioters attack Ronald McDonald House?

Ronald McDonald Houses have been set up around the world to serve as residents for parents and children being treated for chronic illnesses in nearby hospitals. There are 368 houses in 64 different countries/regions. Owen Buell, 2, and his family were staying a Ronald MacDonald House by Chicago’s Lurie Children’s hospital as Owen was treated for Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that attacks organs. The family was planning to return to the House to celebrate Owen’s second birthday: “We were going to have cake and ice cream and do some presents at home with his siblings and his grandma,” said Owen’s mother, Valerie Mitchell. But looting throughout downtown Chicago made it impossible. “We got a phone call from the nurse saying that none of the nurses could make it in for safety concerns and they didn’t want any families in the middle of that trying to walk into Lurie’s,” Mitchell said.
