How many moons does the earth have?
For years, we have been taught there is one moon circling the earth that we see most clear nights, brightly shining in the sky. But there are times when the earth has more than one moon, and we are currently in one of those phases. Early last year (Feb 19, 2020), astronomers caught sight of a small asteroid, called 2020 CD3, that had been caught in the earth’s gravitational pull and is dutifully circling our earth. It takes about 47 days for the small car-sized asteroid to circumvent earth. Astronomers suspect it showed up about three years ago. At some point, it will probably veer off and continue its travels through the universe. And it is not the first time this has happened. For about 10 months in 2006-2007, we had another asteroid circling the earth. READ: How many moons? AND Earth has acquired a brand new moon that’s about the size of a car
