Study: Blueberries reverse cognitive decline in seniors?
There is no known medical cure for dementia. But a study conducted by researchers from the University of North Carolina suggests that eating blueberries every day can actually reverse cognitive decline in seniors, the Daily Mail reports. The researchers came to this conclusion after studying a group of 86 elderly people, aged 65 to 80. Half were provided with blueberry powder to mix with their food and half were provided with a placebo. An additional 43 people, who were experiencing no cognitive decline, were added to function as a control group for the study. The Daily Mail provides more details: Researchers found that those who consumed the blueberries each day had their mental processing speed greatly recover after the period. It was restored to the point that on average they had the same processing speed as the control group who reported no cognitive decline.
