A New York hospital was forced to stop delivering babies after several workers in its maternity ward quit because they were required to take the COVID vaccine.
New York State has recently required all hospital and care workers to have received their first vaccine by Sept 27, 2021.
A spokesperson for Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville stated that six staff members in the maternity ward chose to resign rather than be vaccinated, and seven more are still deciding.
This resulted in a staff shortage, and the hospital made the decision not to deliver babies for at least a couple of weeks until it can find vaccinated replacement workers.
According to WWNY News, 165 hospital workers (27% of the hospital’s staff) have not been vaccinated as of Sept 12, 2021 and 30 staff have already chosen to resign.
