Shawn Bolz prophesied the ‘panic’ associated with the Coronavirus was ‘exaggerated,’ two studies suggest he might be right

When Shawn Bolz came out with his prophecy at the end of February about the Coronavirus pandemic, one thing that caught my attention was his suggestion that the fear associated with this pandemic was exaggerated.

Bolz wrote:

“The exaggerated fear based tactics of both the enemy and several media outlets for political reasons is coming to an end. The enemy has been trying to distract and steal from several equally important purposes and issues by dominating airwaves with conspiracy and fear.”

At the time he gave this word, the concerns about COVID-19 was just gaining steam and his suggestion was clearly opposite of the prevailing opinion.

Now it is obvious that this virus is concerning particularly for those with pre-existing conditions and those who are older and have weakened immune systems because of their age.

However, nearly a month after Bolz gave that prophecy two reports are suggesting that maybe he was right.

The first involves a study conducted by Harvard University and the Hong Kong’s School of Public Health and reported in Nature Medicine.

According to an article published in the Western Journal, the report stated that the death rate for COVID-19 may be lower than rates widely touted by the media.

On March 3, the World Health Organization was projecting a death rate of 3.4% for COVID-19. Of course, much of this was based on the early reports coming out of China. This compares to the death rate of below 1% for the seasonal flu.

However, the Harvard report says based on its analysis of the impact of COVID-19 in Wuhan China, ground zero for the pandemic, the virus death rate is running at only 1.4%. It noted that people over the age of 65 were the most vulnerable with a 2.7% death rate, but those aged 15 to 64 only had a death rate of .5%.

Recent numbers outside of China are all over the map. A study by John Hopkins University says that the death rate in Italy is currently sitting around 9% compared to only about 1% in US and Germany. One of the reasons for this huge difference may be due to how aggressively each country tests for the virus.

Part of the problem is getting an accurate count on how many people actually have COVID-19. This is partially due to the fact that nearly half the people with the virus only have mild symptoms, with 10% having no symptoms at all. Many in this group and even some of those with moderate symptoms would not necessarily want or need medical treatment. So the percentage death rates are calculated based on the number of people who actually went to the doctor and were tested, not the total number of people who had COVID-19.

The second study that pertains to Bolz’s prophecy involves an analysis of a mapping tool provided by “COVID Act Now,” a website being used by media and politicians to track the growth rate of the virus provided by The Federalist.

If you have read any articles on COVID-19, you have probably come across a charts produced by COVID Act Now (sample provided), that indicates how widely the website was used by both media and governments.

Basically the website projects how many people will contract COVID-19 by state and specific date.

Based on these projections, The Federalist alleges politicians and government officials have enacted strict and some would argue draconian measures to combat the spread of the virus.

However, a closer analysis of the website’s predictions suggests that they have fallen far short of what actually took place.

In its article, The Federalist alleges:

“In New York, COVID Act Now claimed nearly 5,400 New Yorkers would’ve been hospitalized by March 19. The actual number of hospitalizations is around 750. The site also claimed nearly 13,000 New York hospitalizations by March 23. The actual number was around 2,500.”

The Federalist

The Federalist also alleges the site predicted that by March 23, Georgia would have 688 people hospitalized for COVID-19 and in fact, by that date it had only 800 reported cases and 300 people in the hospital.

But to be fair the website warned that its predictions “are based on early estimates that are likely to be wrong.”

I don’t think at this point we can get a true measure of the accuracy of Bolz’s prophecy until once this pandemic has settled down and it will settle down. And along that vein, Bolz prophesied that the COVID-19 pandemic would end sooner than later:

“The Lord is saying ‘I am removing the threat of this.’ Within a short amount of time the extreme threat will feel like it is in the way past.”
