During this past week I recognized that something had changed and shifted in my life. And although at times I felt some uncertainty and doubt about the new direction I was taking as I threw off the fears and doubt that ruled my life, I knew that my position had changed, my perspective on life had shifted.
Yes, there were some backlashes as I walked through the wall of fear that controlled my life, but now I am taking authority over the doubts and fear that seemingly rise out of nowhere, like a wave wanting to wash over me.
Yesterday, I decided to stand my ground and the phrase, “I’ll huff and I’ll puff and blow your house down” literally came to mind. Though the nursery story has the powerful wolf trying to blow down the piggy’s straw house, I sensed that God was telling me to reverse that story. We have authority. We have power in God and that satan’s attacks of fear and doubt are made of straw.
We have the power to push back the tide of fear and doubt that wants to overwhelm us.
And these past two days I have literally stood my ground on the shores of testing, took deep breaths then physically and spiritually exhaled to overturn the small breaker waves slowly rising before me.
It was over and I was done with the fear and doubt that ruined my life.
When God formed Adam’s body from the dust of the earth, it was a lifeless human body lying on the ground. Then God leaned over and ‘breathed’ His own “breath of life” into the man’s nostrils. God became Adam’s and all humanity’s source of life.
So what is the breath of God? The Hebrew word for spirit is ‘ruach’ which means “wind, breath, air spirit.” The breath of God is a powerful tool.
Also, Jesus imparted new life to His disciples (John 20:22) as He breathed on them to receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus breathed the power of God on and into His disciples.
God has given us this wonderful gift of breath and I often will take deep breathes and allow them to build as I overcome an anxious thought or fear. I will then blow away my fear with my breath.
So now we can take our stand and breathe and blow and pray and overturn the waves of deception and fear that rise against us.
The Apostle Paul writes that we need to gain control of the thoughts that try to dominate and intimidate us:
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NKJV)
We need take captive every thought that tries to drag us down. We need to pull down these strongholds, completely dismantle and demolish them. These lies live in straw houses and we have the power and authority to take them down.
