Have you heard about the new Darwin? Jeremy England is a professor at MIT with a theory “dissipation-driven adaptation” about the origins of life. The theory focusses on physics instead of biology, the usual scientific approach to evolution.

Life had to happen because of the design and structure of the universe.

That’s a complicated way to say that life was created. The god of creation, in this case, is the physical universe, the thing that made life. By extension, something intelligent made the structure of the universe so that it inevitably produced life, but that is just me talking.

The ‘new Darwin’ Jeremy England identifies as Orthodox Jewish and apparently studies the Torah, what Christians call the Old Testament.

Did you know that the original Darwin was a religious man? He is described as a naturalist, but that profession didn’t exist in his time. He had an interest in the natural world, but his education was in theology and his father wanted him to become a minister. Today we would call him a Bible College graduate.

I believe Darwin’s theory for the origin of the species, evolution, was not biology. It was theology or philosophy, an attempt to remove God from the universe.

The Bible says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth” and then it explains how God created life in His universe. Biological evolutionists speculate about primordial ooze, a chemical mixture in a pool of warm water that was possibly struck by lightning. That random interaction produced the molecules of life that somehow organized themselves into cells that were able to reproduce.

And we have all seen the pictures; a fish crawling onto land, mammals emerging after the dinosaurs, apes climbing down from trees, and then those successive pictures of an ape hunched over, some ugly cave men, and finally a handsome tall white man, the pinnacle of evolution.

It’s all random, the lightning could have missed.

For Jeremy England the emergence of life was not random, the universe had to produce life because of its structure and design.

Christians have their own debates; Bishop Usher in Ireland believed the Earth was a few thousand years old and the creation was a week of 24-hour days, others speculate that a Yom (day) in Hebrew was a time period that could be more than 24 hours, and “special creation” holds that God created primitive life and let it evolve into modern forms, including us.

It’s complicated, but secular evolutionists consider it all silly voodoo. Darwin gave them a universe without God.

Now we have Jeremy England and “dissipation-driven adaptation” with the idea that the universe created life, and this was inevitable because of the way the universe was put together. These ideas are popular, and they are becoming mainstream for many evolutionists.

I feel more comfortable believing that God made it all, and His intelligence shines through the design.
