Canadian Jerry Sokolosky stands 7′ 8″ tall. He has recently been chosen by director Tim Chey to play Goliath in a movie about King David. The $50 million movie is scheduled for release in 2015.
The director said he was delighted to find Sokolosky because he didn’t want to use a computer generated image (CGI) to portray Goliath. CGI was used in the movie “The Incredible Hulk.” Chey says they will use CGI to portray David’s fight with the bear and the lion.
Though Goliath was 9′ tall, Chey believes Sokolosky will more than fill the role of Goliath, giving the ancient giant a realistic appearance. (more…)
A Oklahoma politician is using a strange argument in her attempt to have Marijuana legalized in that state. According to KFOR.com, Senator Constance Johnson quoted the Bible when she along with attorney David Slane announced a petition drive pushing for pot legalization in the birth place of such stars as Will Rogers, Chuck Norris and Ron Howard.
Citing Genesis 1:29, Johnson said that Marijuana was among a group of herbs God created for people to use.
And God said, ‘See I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seeds, to you it shall be for food.” (Genesis 1:29 NASV)
“We’re putting forth Genesis 1:29 as the basis of this campaign. God created this wonderful, miraculous plant and we know that it has been vilified for the last 100 years, and it’s time to change that in Oklahoma.”
As Hamas continues to rain thousands of rockets and missiles on Israel, people are stunned by the lack of damage that is occurring. A number of reasons are being thrown out. Israel has developed its Iron Dome that is intercepting rockets and destroying them before they land. But it is not stopping all of them.
Israel estimates it intercepts between 30% to 40% of Hamas’ missiles. Many are still getting through, but so far have inflicted minimal damage.
The Hamas strategy has been relatively simple — throw enough rockets into the air and eventually one is going to cause massive damage. That moral victory will be trumpeted around the Middle East. Targets of their barrage have included a nuclear power plant, airports and city suburbs.
According to reports, even the Hamas is starting to notice how ineffective their missiles have been and they blame Jehovah. (more…)
Esau and Jacob were the fraternal twin sons of Isaac and Rebekah. Esau, who was firstborn, was destined to receive the firstborn inheritance which amounted to twice that of the other children. So Esau would receive two thirds of the family inheritance and Jacob only a third.
However, as a young man Esau traded away his double-portion inheritance for a mess of pottage. After a day in the field, Esau came back to the camp starving. Jacob was making a stew. When Esau asked Jacob for some stew, Jacob only agreed if Esau traded away his double-portion inheritance to Jacob.
32 Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?” 33 And Jacob said, “First swear to me”; so he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. … Thus Esau despised his birthright. (Genesis 25:32-34 NASV)
Esau was not willing to delay the instant gratification of a mess of pottage. The Bible says because of his lack of self-control, Esau despised his inheritance. Esau’s children would form Edom (Genesis 25:30) and become a bitter enemy of Isaac’s children — Israel.
David Brooks in his article, What Marshmallows can teach us about life, writes about the work of researcher Walter Mischel who studied the importance of self-control. (more…)
Police are investigating a number of arson fires outside churches located in Mesa, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix.
According to an article on Charisma News, there have been six fires reported. Three were set in May at Mesa Baptist Church, two set in June at the East Mesa Christian Church and Pilgrim Lutheran Church and one in July at Calvary Baptist Church.
It doesn’t seem these were deliberate attempts to set the churches on fire as they were set in front of church doors, but far enough back not to affect the building.
The fires may have actually been a form of satanic sacrifice. (more…)
In 1 John 2:18, the Bible warns that there will be many antichrists, before the final one shows at the end of the age. But, perhaps the first reference to an antichrist is found centuries earlier in the first few chapters of Genesis.
After the flood, God commanded Noah and his family to spread out and fill the earth. Instead Noah’s descendants congregated in the valley of Mesopotamia. At this point, they were still one language (Genesis 11:1).
The driving force behind this was a man named Nimrod. The word “Nimrod” literally means “we shall rebel.” The name itself sets the stage for what follows. (more…)
In my earlier post, I discussed a passage in Revelation 2:12-13, that speaks of a specific place where Satan lived at that time in history — Pergamum (also written Pergamon).
And to the angel of the church of Pergamum write: I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is and you hold fast My name and did not deny My faith even in the days of Antipas, My witness, My faithful one, who was killed among you, where satan dwells (Revelation 2:12-13 NASV)
The city was not only the dwelling place of Satan, but Satan’s throne was located there as well. At the time the Apostle John wrote Revelation, the city was home to a massive altar dedicated to Zeus. Some have suggested the Pergamum altar was in fact the throne of Satan referred to in Revelation. This altar simply manifested a spiritual reality — Pergamum was Satan’s capital.
It is not a coincidence that in the natural realm Pergamum was also the capital of Asia. Satan’s presence in this key city gave him an opportunity to influence the political process.
After Christianity came into dominance in the Roman Empire, the altar fell into disrepair. The temple was turned into a fortress and partly destroyed during many battles. The altar gradually disappeared covered by debris and dirt. (more…)
